My photo
Hi there! As you can see, my name is Chris, I'm at university and I'm currently 21 years old, but there's more to know than my name and age. So what am I doing then? Well I'm studying Game Art at DMU. I am aiming to be one of the top proffesional vehicle artists in the industry. In the meantime, check out this Blog of mine and when your finished, take a look at my website!

Mercedes W03

Finishing of the textures now. Quite easy so far, no real challenges or problems so far. Tyres are very dark now but i believe thats down to the mental ray daylight system.

Okay, so im thinking of rendering the headlight covers separately and simply add them to the final render in photoshop. Added a little more warmth to the image this time. Things are looking pritty good now, il probably set up the over head lighting to ignore the door window and see if the side lighting can make up for it.

If all goes well, i should be rendering a large render tomorrow! Im a little concerned of the time its going to take to render... It took about 30 minutes for this 1280x 720 image. Might be a few hours for a nice A3.5 render along with an ambient occlusion render and beauty passes.

Need to fix the headlight covers as there is no reflection on them or opacity. Tweak the lighting on the roof and side window as i don't like that at all. I could possible remove the light from the main cylindrical light.

Here is the image with a warming filter and below a cold filter.

Improved the Tyres now, Bump mapping seems to be very weak in Vray, or im doing something wrong. Turned to displacement to do the job for now.

Also updated the brake discs and the brake pads

Okay so things are coming together now. Main priority now is to adjust the white balance of the materials, create a nice brake disc texture, add the normal map for the tyre and give the windows a slight blue tint. Adjust the headlight illumination some more, move the mclaren logo on the bonnet.

That door windows reflection is doing my head in to! gona have to get rid of that crap.

Apart from the list of errors and problems, i'm rather enjoying Vray now, even if it takes a life time to render anything.

Much improved paint now. Lighting is much better too, features a plane light, same technique they use in actual car shoots along with a few other lights. Need to adjust the headlight illumination and tweak the lighting  a little bit to better show of the curves of the body.

Test Render

Preview of the new Mclaren render. Ignore the crapy shadows. Proper render coming soon
