SO WHO IS THIS GUY?

My photo
Hi there! As you can see, my name is Chris, I'm at university and I'm currently 21 years old, but there's more to know than my name and age. So what am I doing then? Well I'm studying Game Art at DMU. I am aiming to be one of the top proffesional vehicle artists in the industry. In the meantime, check out this Blog of mine and when your finished, take a look at my website!

Silver

Seeing as the model is nearly finished, Im going to start experimenting with different compositions for the final image, along with colour variations of the car. After that, i will then put it all into my final scene and begin the HDRI renders

Almost there

Almost finished the exterior model of the car. Still not sure on wether to create a highly detailed interior or to have a simple mesh. I will be adding the Mclaren logos onto the car and alloys tomorow, along with chamfering the body.

Update

Adding the final parts for the exterior of the car model. I will then chamfer the edges of the cars body in the coming days.

GT2 Update and WO3

Just so you know, even though i put the GT2 art car to one side, i shall be finishing it soon. Im also going to create a new livery for the car.

I am also getting close to texturing the Mercedes W03 F1 car. Here is an old render of the model from last month or so.

Panels completed

Body is un-chamfered apart from the body panel seams.

Body Panels

Update on the car body panels. Looking okay so far, the bonnet definatly looks like the real thing in terms of the gap. Might need to adjust the spacing of the door seams though.

Bonnet

Started dividing up the body panels now. Main thing i learnt from creating my BMW model was that the gaps between the panels were far to small. This is something im giving much more attention to this time around.

Render and a photograph of the car.

Car Update

Rear diffuser modelled, along with the number plate holder. Non chamfered car body.

Car update 2

Chamfered the model just to see how it all looks so far. Mental Ray render for this, but i will be using Vray and HDRI for the final image as im going to be aiming for the most realistic render i can produce.

Click image for a much larger size.

Car Update

Here is a work in progress render of the model. My topology for this model is almost perfect so far, only consisting of polygons and no triangles. I havnt chamfered any edges yet or seperated any body panels, except for the rear wing and alloys.

Alloys Update

From left to right: Chrome alloy, Glossy Metal and a reflective gun metal grey

HDRI update

Done a few more renders and tweaking with the settings, it seems like the car is only reflecting what is on the picture and not the second picture which it is suppose to be reflecting....

Found out a few more things though such as being able to increase the resolution of the image to be reflected, Global illumination settings for these types of renders along with improving the standard Vray render settings

HDRI and VRAY

Figuring out how to get HDRIs to work with my models now. Some failed attempts here and there but im getting the hang of it now. Oh and ive made the jump to Vray! Its vastly different to mental ray but the principals are still the same. However, there are major difference in setting up a scene to render and so many options to tweak the final outcomes, gona be fun!

Below are some test renders with HDRI images. The 2 images below are first attempts and the bottom one ive done today. Got shading on the ground working and there are reflections on the car, but as the horizon line is so low, theres not much to reflect.

Going to start photographing some good locations soon and really create an awesome piece of work!
